Pagers might seem a bit old fashioned...but there are actually a few good reasons why we still use them!
How do pagers (beepers) work? Yes, there was wearable wireless communication long before cellphones and smartphones. And you know what? It was awesome! Your cellphone gets in the way of your daily life when everyone can just call you and you have to stop what you're doing to talk to them. With pagers, people would page you and then patiently wait for you to return their call. If you didn't call back after a half hour or so, they would assume you didn't get the page and call you again. Very simple, and civilized. Unlike today when people expect to reach you instantly, at their convenience and not yours. So, since pagers are slowly being phased out as more and more paging transmitters are being taken off the air to cut costs as the customer base dwindles, I thought it would be a good idea to preserve a bit of communications history before it's too late and do a simple demonstration.

A quick run through of the G5's pager tone, that are on the pager when you receive it. The pager can also have custom tones uploaded to it in the MP3 or WAV format. It has been pointed out that Tone 3 is different in others pagers, Unication is not sure why this is happening. Each number corresponds to the tone number in the pager programming.

The system includes 999-channel call buttons keypad and portable buzzer&vibration receivers. The call button keypad has 16 battery charging slots. Each receiver is rechargeable and labeled with a number. In standby status, it is plugged into the charging slot, while the client places an order, he(she) will be dispatched one receiver with a number, when the order is ready, press the keypad to call the number, the client will get it through the buzzer/vibration/LED indications.
The Motorola Beepers was made famous by Seattle’s Sir Mix-a-Lot when Macklemore was a baby! That was in 1988. Next, we could receive more than just phone numbers, by having an operator take a message and type it into our pagers. That was expansive and not private at all. But then, the holy grail. We could upgrade to pagers and then setup our email to send a second copy of each email to our alpha numeric pagers!! Could it get any better?? Yes it could, thanks to Canada. Those smarties at Research in Motion put a tiny thumb keyboard below the screen of a pager in a perfect thumb optimized parabola to type messages on. Thus beginning the dot-com-era where people would be looking down at their devices and not paying attention to one another. Blame Canada.

Pagers by the manufacturer Apollo are "hand programmable" which means no specialized pager programming software or hardware is needed. Other Apollo pagers program in a very similar fashion as the T2000. If the pager is a side display pager such as the Apollo 202, 308 "signature" or 500r, they program the same, it's just a matter of finding which button to hold down to get into the mode and which button advances the digits and which one changes the digits.
